Going Positive in 2023
Updated: Jan 12
Today is coming on strong. Daylight is rising with endless possibilities. Going positive means finding fascination in the familiar, magic in the mundane, and knowing what you really care about.
The majesty of nature isn’t restricted to the grand and far away. Beauty can be found anywhere, from the wing of a grasshopper on your fingertip and the calm of a quiet Lake, to a rising moon and beyond. There’s vitality in the natural world begging to be discovered.
“There’s nothing wrong with the world. What’s wrong is our way at looking at it.”
The Hard Part
The hard part isn’t getting started. It’s not the grind or burning the midnight oil. And it’s not about pushing through the messy middle, finishing strong, or soldiering on. The hard part is finding something you care enough about to do all those things.
The question you need to answer is, “What do I really care about?”
If you really care about writing, be a student of good writing. Read the classics. Read often. Write often. The more you study, read and write, the better your writing will be.
“Find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about. It is this genuine caring, and not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style.” ~ Kurt Vonnegut
If you really care about photography, be a student of good photography. Discover what you like in photos, the composition, the lighting, the splendor in nature! Take lots of pictures. The more you study, and appreciate the beauty in portraits, landscapes, and wildlife - and the more photos you take - the better your photos will be.
Too often we find ourselves running East looking for a sunset. Go positive. Find out what you really care about, be a student of whatever that happens to be, then soldier on with passion. Find your sunset.
